Influencing the Spiritual Growth of our Spouses

A Husband’s Prayer…..
Dear Lord,

You have blessed me and my family in so many ways. I give you thanks, and I pray that I will express my gratitude in ways that glorify you. Help me to see my spouse, more and more, as a gift from You. Allow me to put her needs ahead of my own. I want to live in a Christ-like way. Guide me, O Lord, to be a servant in my wife’s spiritual growth and development. Help me to provide the space and the quiet that she needs that will help her to be nurtured in You. Give me the words to help her focus her priorities. Walk with us both as we seek to find Your presence in our lives. Protect us both as we make our life-long journey home to You. Amen.

A Wife’s Prayer….
Dear Lord,

I am so grateful to You that You are the best shaping agent in my husband’s life. I love having the front row seat in watching him live his faith. Forgive me and help me to release him into Your hands in those moments when I want to be the primary shaping and influencing force for him, when I forget that Your way is better than mine, when I live as if I don’t believe that You are in charge, when I doubt his faith and Your ability.

Lord, let me also be sensitive to inspirations from You that You might intend me to share with him. Give me wisdom to discern what is Your way and what is my selfish own. I am fulfilled in the deepest ways that I am able to be a help to him in small and in big ways. I pray that he may be aware of Your presence in this day. I ask that his faith in You might increase in his present trials.

One of our goals in the last months of the Three Strand Cord is to influence our spouses’ spiritual growth.   In the first small group gathering we considered spiritual disciplines and encouraged couples to pick a discipline to try together…..to seek to know God, together.   By selecting “Spiritual Disciplines” on the right bar, you will see a step by step guide on how to start.  

We have had some lively discussions about gender differences and similarities.   Gender has much to do with marriage!   We invite you to to engage in a discussion about the importance of gender issues in marriage.  Maybe we will together find our way to a greater appreciation for male and female.   Select “Male and Female” on the right side bar to contribute, to see what we have said or what others have said.
